Direct3D may apparently be the favorite tool and considered better than OpenGL by most computer users, but OpenGL is the prefered graphics engine for console systems (aside from Xbox, which is in all reality a PC with a controler and really basic OS). Direct3D also suffers performance problems and is alot harder to port than OpenGL. Hence OpenGLs wider use. Apparently Direct3D will be vastly improved once DirectX10 is released. But for now OpenGL apparently is the faster and better functioning of the two. 'n stuff. :P I have no idea. Heh. There's articles on Wiki for OpenGL, Direct3D, and even an "OpenGL vs Direct3D" article if you want the dead-on accurate info.
